Tanner Roark should be a consideration today. He was used out of the bullpen in the last game before the All-Star Break, but he will return back to his normal starting role today. In his last six starts, Roark has pitched at least six innings in all of them and lasted at least seven innings in all but one. Those six starts and his relief appearance create a stretch of 43.2 IP in which he is posting a 2.68 ERA and striking out 36 batters. He will face the Pirates tonight who continue to struggle at the dish. Pittsburgh ranks 28th in wOBA in the last thirty days and is third-worst in the league with a 24.7% K rate in that same stretch.

He would be a risky option today, but Yu Darvish needs to be on your radar moving forward. He’s been hampered by injury all season, making only three starts, the last of which was June 8th. Even in limited action, he’s been very exciting. He’s hitting the radar gun at career highs and has struck out 19 batters in his 15.2 innings pitched. He would be the ultimate flier today against the Cubs. Expect him to be on a pitch count, but the Cubs are one of the highest strikeout teams no matter how you split the season.

Don’t overlook those Fightin’ Phils right now! The Phillies rank 4th in wOBA in the last 14 days. They are displaying some tremendous power, posting a .189 ISO in the same span, which is 7th best in the league. They are going to get the opportunity to face Logan Verrett today. Verrett has battled himself this month, tallying the third worst xFIP on the slate. He’s bounced back and forth between starting and coming out of the pen, but the results have mostly been the same…poor. In his last 28.1 IP, he’s been knocked around for a 5.40 ERA and is nearly walking more hitter than he is striking them out (17 vs 14).
