This is a really lackluster pitching slate so I’m going back to the well with Danny Duffy. Since June 1 (seven starts), Duffy is posting a 3.02 ERA while striking out 53 batters in 44.2 IP. His K/9 is valuable upside on this slate with few other options. Duffy has kept the Royals in every game he’s pitched, allowing no more than three earned runs in any of those starts. He’s been even better in his last two, where’s he’s surrendered just four total runs over 16.2 innings and striking out 16. Tonight he faces the Mariners who have cooled off a bit, falling to the 18th ranked team in wOBA in the last 30 days.

It’s likely that we will have to trot Trevor Bauer out in our lineups today. He’s been another solid performer this season, sporting a 2.42 ERA over his last 11 games. Remember, he had to pitch five innings out of the bullpen on July 1st in that marathon game against the Blue Jays. He entered in the 15th and three five shutout innings against the potent Blue Jays lineup on three days rest. He will be back on normal rest again today as he battles the New York Yankees who now rank 18th in wOBA in the last 30 days. I’d prefer Bauer in GPPs only, but do what you have to do on this slate.

Now might be a sneaky time to fire up the Twins as a stack. They have been much better in recent days, earning the league’s 6th best wOBA in the last week. Only the Angels have scored more runs in that time span. They get to travel to a scorching hot Globe Life Park in Arlington which is expected to be 98 degrees tomorrow at first pitch. There is a direct correlation between runs being scored in Texas and the temperature. The icing on the cake is the matchup with Chi Chi Gonzalez has made two starts this season and he’s been awful to say the least. In a combined 5.2 IP, he’s surrendered 12 hits and nine runs. In fact, he faced these Twins just five days ago and Minnesota knocked him out after 0.2 IP.
