Chris Archer looks like he’s finally finding his form after a brutal start to this season. Archer struggled to a 4.60 ERA over his first 21 games of the season, which is completely uncharacteristic for the Rays ace. The consolation was that his strikeouts were still there, whiffing 147 batters in 123.1 IP. It’s been much better numbers for Archer over his last five games, working that ERA down to 2.67 and striking out 39 batters in 33.2 innings. You can’t love the matchup with Boston tonight, but Archer should come with low ownership. He should benefit from the friendly confines of Tropicana Field where he has a 2.66 ERA this season compared to 5.97 on the road.

Can you trust Danny Salazar right now? The Cleveland righty was lifted from a game on August 1st and added to the DL with right elbow inflammation. He then came back 17 days later and threw 34 pitches, allowing three runs in the first inning before being removed. All reports from the club indicate that he was yanked for performance issues and not injury issues. In fact, he threw a bullpen session to reach his target pitch count. If we assume he’s 100% healthy and ready to be unleashed, he offers outstanding upside. He is a high strikout pitcher, averaging 10.19 K/9 this season. That’s the 9th highest mark in the league of anyone who has pitched at least 110 innings. Now he’s going to travel to the spacious O.co Coliseum to face the Athletics who rank 25th in wOBA in the last 30 days. He’s certainly risky, but you couldn’t ask for a much better spot today.

If you’re willing to buy really low on an offense, consider the White Sox today. they are in a massive struggle over the last month but swing it better at home, where they will be tonight in a tasty matchup. they are going to get Phillies rookie, Jake Thompson, who has received a rude welcome to the Majors. In his first three starts of his career, he’s been smacked around for 14 hits and 14 runs in just 14.1 IP. He’s walking nearly as many as he’s striking out (9 vs 11) and has already served up three longballs. Now he has to travel to an American League park and face a team with a DH when he’s shown little resistance to National League teams. That feels like a tall task for a guy making his fourth major league start.
