Danny Salazar missed a start two weeks ago, but threw 102 pitches in his last outing which would indicate he will not be limited moving forward. He was able to shake off a little rusty early in his last start, but ended with eight strikeouts over 5.2 IP and only allowing three hits to the Angels. Salazar has been excellent this season and has allowed two or fewer earned runs in ten of his twelve starts this season. The upside is appealing from Salazar who owns a 10.82 K/9 this season, second on this slate to only Max Scherzer. He will take on the White Sox today who have fallen off the face of the Earth in the last 30 days. They rank 29th in wOBA in that span, while striking out at 23.4%.

The great Steven Matz will get another crack at the Braves tonight. The league’s worst offense is dismal versus LHP and they will get the stellar Matz tonight. They two have faced each other before and it ended with Matz striking out eight over 6.1 IP while allowing two runs. No pitcher on this slate has a better xFIP than Matz this season. He will likely be chalk tonight, but that doesn’t make him a bad play.

Jake Peavy‘s 4.72 xFIP is certainly a target today. Peavy has been really volatile this season. He’s allowed 4+ ER in seven of his 13 starts this season while posting one ER or less in another four starts. Today he’s going to have to leave the friendly confines of AT&T Park to take on an American League lineup in the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays have some stellar advanced stats including a .336 wOBA in the last 30 days, which ranks 7th in the league. Also plenty of power in this lineup, sporting a .197 ISO (3rd best) which could cause some havoc tonight.
