The ultimate GPP tonight in Gio Gonzalez who has been racking up the strikeouts as of late. His 11.17 K/9 is best on this slate (of anyone with more than 19 IP) in the last 30 days. He’s coming off a ten strikeout performance and has now K’d 18 over his last 13 innings pitched. There are certainly concerns with Gio tonight, like his enormous 8.34 ERA in the last month and the fact that he has to face the Cubs tonight. The Cubs have cooled off and are currently an average MLB offense in the last thirty days, while continuing to strikeout at one of the highest rates in the league. Gonzalez is at least a workhorse who reaches 100 pitches on most nights. If he can continue to produce the strikeouts and avoid the big inning, he could be a valuable and under-owned starter on this slate. I’d roll him out in a small percentage of my multiple lineups.

If you’re out there targeting value strikeouts, take a look at Archie Bradley. The young righty has piled up 24 Ks in his last 19 IP (three starts). He’s been victim of the longball this season, but his 15% HR/FB rate indicates he’s been running below expectation. That number should regress back closer to 10% and facing the Dodgers tonight could help. The Dodgers have struggled offensively all season long and that’s no different right now as they rank 26th in wOBA in the last 30 days. Their team batting average is .232 which is 28th in the league.

It’s been a long season for Chris Young of the Royals. Young has made eight starts this season and has compiled a vicious 7.05 ERA which is 29 ER and a whopping 17 HRs in only 37 innings. His HR/9 is 3.73, by far the worst mark in the league. Now he has to battle the Indians who continue to rake. Cleveland has a .329 wOBA in the last 30 days, which is the ninth-best mark in the league. Only four teams have hit more homers and only two teams have scored more runs in that span.
