The story of Danny Duffy this season has been pretty incredible. A reliever converted to starter has increased his pitch count in each of his seven starts this season. Topping out at 88 pitches in his last start, Duffy has been incredibly efficient. He’s boasting a 10.67 K/9 in the last 30 days which would normally indicate he’s throwing a lot of pitches, but that’s not really the case. Duffy has lasted at least six innings in three of his last four starts and has only walked seven batters in his last 36 innings. Now he gets to travel to a National League park and face the Mets who rank 27th in wOBA versus lefties this season while striking out at the highest rate.

Well it’s really hard to look past Michael Fulmer tonight. If you haven’t noticed, he’s been nothing short of dominant in his last six starts. Over those 40 innings, he’s allows just two runs while striking out 35. That’s a dazzling 0.45 ERA and his opponents are hitting only .134 against him. The only real concern for Fulmer is the matchup with the Mariners. Seattle has been a top offense this season, but Fulmer might be getting them at a good time. Over the last week, Seattle has been an average offense in terms of wOBA and are striking out at the 6th highest rate.
The Orioles are in line for a big offensive night against Erik Johnson and the Padres. Johnson has only made four starts this season, but has allowed 4, 5, 5 and 5 earned runs in those starts. He’s been equaling as bad since being traded to the Padres. In those two starts with San Diego, Johnson has allowed as many homers as he has strikeouts (5). The Orioles are absolutely scorching right now. In the last 14 days, no team has a better wOBA and they rank third in homers.
