Is Drew Pomeranz still sneaky? This guy has been excellent this season, striking out 11.48 K/9, which is second on this slate. He’s sporting a 1.80 ERA and has only allowed one earned run in his last three starts (18 IP). He’s going to battle the tough Giants, but San Fran ranks 18th on the road this season and it doesn’t get anymore pitcher-friendly than Petco Park. Pomeranz has yet to allow an earned run at home this season.

His counterpart, Johnny Cueto, has been equally as impressive this season. Cueto owns the third-best xFIP on this slate and is striking out a respectable 8.27 K/9. I’ve been thoroughly by his 1.56 BB/9, which has kept most of his game sheets clean. Cueto has been killed in two games this season, allowing 12 ER in those two starts. In his other six starts, he surrendered only 7 ER. We’ve already talked about Petco, so let’s talk about the Padres in general. They own the second-worst wOBA this season while striking out at the third-highest clip in the league. That’s a killer combination for opposing pitchers.

How about those Arizona Diamondbacks for tonight? They’ve righted the ship after a few week skid and are back to the 5th best offense in the L7 days.  It’s impressive that they’ve done that while only hitting three homers this week, considering we know how much power is in this lineup. In fact, they have the rare combination or speed and power. They rank 6th in HRs this season and 4th in stolen bases. Tonight they get Nathan Eovaldi who is a real boom-or-bust option. Eovaldi has surrendered 24 hits in his last 18 innings (3 starts) and is always a threat to give up a gopher ball. He’s already surrendered seven HRs this season which is the 5th highest total in the league.
