KLM Open – The Dutch, Spijk (2016)
Unfortunately, as fast as a week with good course history came, it went. We are on to the KLM Open in the Netherlands, and as seems to frequently be the case on the Euro tour we are on a new course and have no real course history to speak of. Don’t let that hold you back though because I think there are some values on the board this week, and I will definitely be partaking.
Hot Course History:
Joost Luiten ($10,500) – It needs to be said again that we have no relevant course history this week since this event is at a new course, so take this section with a grain of salt. That being said Luiten has three top ten finishes with a win dating back to 2011.
Pablo Larrazabal ($9,300) – Lrrazabal is one of the few golfers who rivals Luiten’s event history here with his three straight top ten finishes. Larrazabal’s price is inflated as a result, and again with the history being somewhat irrelevant I think Larrazabal could make a great fade this week.
Cold Course History:
Byeong-Hun An ($10,400) – There is no shortage of cold event history in this field but with the history being irrelevant I felt like it was worth mentioning Hun An. His only result at this event was a measly sixty-fifth finish, but I think it’s a great spot to jump on Byeong-Hun An. His event history is meaningless and he could definitely find himself at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday, despite what I expect to be deflated ownership.
Thongchai Jaidee ($9,800) – Jaidee is coming into this event playing some decent golf and is in a similar situation to Hun An with only one seventy-first place result at this event. With the history being meaningless, Jaidee is a class golfer who should have reduced ownership in a spot where he can definitely win. Sign me up!
Hot Recent Form:
Thomas Pieters ($12,100) – In his last three results Peters has not finished outside of the top five, which is certainly an accomplishment of sorts. With Pieters coming off a win, there could be a case for fading him, but no matter which way you look at it, he certainly has hot recent form unlike any other golfer in the field.
Robert Karlsson ($8,300) – Karlsson isn’t going to make the front page headlines with his recent form by a long stretch, but he recent fifteenth and seventh place finishes are definitely noteworthy. Two results is not enough for me to put Karlsson in a new category of skill as a golfer, but it’s definitely enough to raise my interest in rostering him.
Cold Recent Form:
Chris Wood ($9,500) – Don’t get me wrong, I love Chris Wood as a fantasy option more often than not, but his results as of late have been nothing to write home about. With a thirty-second, missed cut, and withdraw in his three most recent start, it could be Wood’s neck that continues to bother him. My suggestion would be to leave him off of your cash team this week and tread carefully moving forward.
Eddie Pepperell ($7,000) – Pepperell is an interesting case, because his two most recent finishes at this event are fourth and fifth place, which is why he finds himself at anything other than minimum salary after his three straight missed cuts. I’ll be reminding myself that this is a different course and his event history is all but meaningless when I fade Pepperell this week.
