Tournament History, Performance, Stats and Salaries At Bottom!
Open de France – Le Golf National (2016)
Back again as usual as the Euro tour moves on to Open de France at Le Golf National in Paris France. With all of the Olympic scheduling conflicts the Euro tour was kind enough to ultra-incentivize players to play the Euro tour event this week as opposed to the WGC- Bridgestone event by not counting the WGC event as one of the thirteen required events to keep Euro tour card status and doubling the points Open de France is worth, which may be bad news for the WGC, but good news for the Euro tour loyalists out there as the field is much stronger as a result.
Hot Course History:
Martin Kaymer – Martin Kaymer marks one of the very few members of this field that has really consistent course history with only one missed cut dating back to 2007. Obviously this most definitely makes him a cash game option this week, however in the same span, Kaymer has rattled off five top tens including a win, meaning he certainly has the credentials to qualify as a GPP play.
Graeme McDowell – Hot course history is a relative term when it comes to McDowell since he is coming off a missed cut last year at this event. However it’s his back to back wins that force my hand in including him in the hot course history section of this article. McDowell is by no means a cash game option and is well known as a volatile golfer, however winning the same event in back to back years is not a common occurrence and is hard to overlook.
Cold Course History:
Danny Willett – You might be surprised to learn that Danny Willet does indeed have two top ten finishes at this event historically, however since 2011 Willett has only made the cut once and rattled off a 68th place finish when he did. A golfer of this price and caliber with more than a few poor results really leaves me hesitating a bit when considering Willett.
Chris Wood – You may remember this young superstar from his win nearly a month ago on the Euro tour, however in five tries at this event dating back to 2010 Wood has finished no better than thirty-seventh, including three straight missed cuts at this event.
Hot Recent Form:
Lee Westwood – With a relatively strong field this week you may be surprised to note that there is a surprising lack of really strong recent form this week. Westwood is where I landed though with four straight made cuts and his worst finish being the U.S. Open where he managed to nab a thirty-second place finish after three rounds of being in contention. I’m writing off this result given the stage and difficulty of Oakmont and targeting on the three straight top fifteen finishes prior including two top tens.
Gregory Bourdy – While I wouldn’t go putting Bourdy at the top of the list in the salaries just yet, he is one of the very few golfers in the field who has played more than four times in the past ten weeks and not missed the cut. With five top twenty five finishes in six events and seven straight made cuts, Bourdy certainly qualifies as one of the few golfers in the field with hot recent form.
Cold Recent Form:
Graeme Storm – Don’t be fooled by Storm’s recent top ten finish and lock him into your rosters just yet. Storm, despite his recent top ten, missed the four cuts prior and finished no better than fourty-fifth in all of the nine weeks prior. Storm may have found something last week, but I wouldn’t look for that trend to continue based on his recent past.
Troy Merritt – You may recognize this guy as a previous winner on the PGA tour, however despite what may look to be a familiar name, Merritt does not come with the comforts of familiarity you should be seeking. With four missed cuts in seven events and having finished no better than seventeenth, I don’t think Merritt has what we are looking for.
