Tournament History, Performance, Stats and Salaries At Bottom
What’s goin’ on everyone!? Before I get started I just want to introduce myself. My name is Eric Patterson and I am pumped to be writing for DFS on Demand. I’m passionate about DFS Golf, love to write about and like to have fun with it as well. I’m am far from a professional, I do not invest huge amounts of money into DFS and work a regular 9-5 job. What an incredible week of golf we got to witness at the U.S. Open, making weeks like this a little tougher to get up for and get back on the horse. But, the PGA Tour isn’t taking a week off, which means more money is out there to be won!
The Quicken Loans National will be played at Congressional Country Club, which has played host to U.S. Opens and PGA Championships in the past, adding a twist to the event this week. The course could play very tough due to the thicker rough we typically see at these style of courses. Combine the difficulty of the course with the weak field, and there will definitely be some blind dart throws that could make or break you this week. Alright, enough of the boring stuff, onto my picks.
My Staples
Patrick Reed – $11,700
Since I have next to no faith in Rickie Fowler, and don’t want to pay up for Jim Furyk’s pars, I’m finding myself liking Patrick Reed out of the top tier of golfers. This definitely seems like a type of tournament Reed can win. I am choosing to ignore his missed cut last week at the U.S. Open, and focus on his eight top 10s and 14 made cuts. His elite scrambling ability should come back into play this week, to go with his strong tee to green game. His missed cut last week could very well scare players off Reed, making him a fantastic GPP play.
Brendan Steele – $9,900
It feels weird to see Brendan Steele priced so highly, since he seems to always be priced in the low $7,000 range, but Steele ranks first in my weighted rankings so I cannot ignore him. He has the driving distance and scoring ability to get around Congressional. He has two top 20 finishes at this course, including a 5th place finish in 2014. Steele has been super consistent recently as well with four top 20s in his past five events. He will be a lock for me in cash games this week, and hopefully his higher than normal price will keep his GPP ownership in a manageable range.
Kevin Chappell – $9,400
Here is another guy coming off of a missed cut at the U.S. Open (there are a lot of these guys) that isn’t scaring me off of them. Chappell has been playing extremely well this season, and is still hunting for his first career victory. He ranks 10th in strokes gained tee-to-green, 21st in proximity from 200+, and 46th in par 4 scoring average. Chappell finished T3 in the 2011 U.S. Open held at Congressional and has made four consecutive cuts, so he has the ability to contend at this track.
Jamie Lovemark – $8,200
I am a big fan of Jamie Lovemark at this price. Although he has yet to play Congressional, he seems to have the style of game that can compete here. He is long off the tee, a good scorer on par 4s and 5s, makes a ton of birdies and is also an elite scrambler. If Lovemark has a good week finding the fairway with his driver, he should have an easy time navigating this long course. Since his second place finish the Zurich Classic, he has made four straight cuts, none of which have resulted in high finishes. I think this is a good week to jump back in on Lovemark, who comes in at a real discount in a weak field.
