The Porsche European Open – Golf Resort Bad Griesbach (2016)

What a week of fun with the Italian open coming to a close. I was able to take down a couple of GPPs on the Euro slate for a nice chunk of change so hopefully you had some success as well. We’re on to the European Open this week which is a field that I believe has a ton of value once again. We’re at a newer course so the course history side of things is a bit out the window with only one appearance at this course but the history is something that can be taken into account with a grain of salt so below I’ve listed golfers who have both hot and cold course history and recent form for help when building your lineups this week.

Hot Course History:

Tongchai Jaidee ($9,100) – Jaidee won this event in 2015 which was the only time this course was featured at this event. As such I think Jaidee is one of the more popular players in the field and should be used with a bit of caution. With only one data point to work with I think the tendency will be to overreact to the fact that jaidee won here last year.

Graeme Storm ($6,900) – Again use a bit of caution here, but Graeme Storm finishes runner up at this event in 2015 which has led to increased interest on my end. At what I believe to be a good value I think there is enough here to want to use Storm, but not enough to go all-in on him.

Cold Course History:

Bernd Wiesberger ($10,900) – Wiesberger missed the cut here in 2015 which is not a very common occurrence for him. However one missed cut is not enough to scare me off of Wiesberger completely this week and should be cause for reduced ownership on a golfer who has some serious upside.

Pablo Larrazabal ($7,200) – Again to be taken with a grain of salt, Larrazabal had a missed cut in the event’s only appearance at this course. Larrazabal has been a staple in my lineups over the past month or so but with a missed cut last week at the Italian Open and a missed cut last year, I think I will reduce my exposure with the risk associated to Larrazabal this week.

Hot Recent Form:

Thomas Pieters ($12,100) – It’s starting to seem like I should just leave Pieters in the hot recent form section with the same blurb each week to see if anyone notices. Pieters has established himself as one of the hottest golfers in the world as of late with his stretch of a win, second, and fourth place finishes dating back six weeks.

David Horsey ($8,600) – Horsey also comes in with a hot streak of back to back top five finishes in his last two events on tour. There is definitely some volatility associated with Horsey, so don’t expect this streak to last forever but I will definitely be taking on the risk in hopes of Horsey reaching his upside potential.

Cold Recent Form:

Nicolas Colsaerts ($8,800) – We aren’t exactly used to seeing Colsaerts show up on lists of cold recent form, however I think he qualifies. As one of the class golfers in the field, Colsaerts has had no finish better than twenty-fourth over the course of the last ten weeks. It’s enough for me to most likely fade Colsaerts entirely this week until I see something other than a mediocre performance.

Anirban Lahiri ($8,200) – I thought I should mention Lahiri in this section because he has been playing poorly as of late. With a fifty-seventh, missed cut, and sixty eighth place finish in his last three results which name nearly two months ago, he may be well rested and practiced so I won’t be fading Lahiri entirely, but his recent form certainly doesn’t inspire confidence.
